Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall

Take a journey to Venice to hear Vivaldi’s immortal work, The Four Seasons, brilliantly rendered for virtuoso violin; here, a showcase for Associate Concertmaster Helen Kim. In a musical first, Vivaldi captured all the characteristic moments of each season — slippery ice, spring thaws, summer storms and glorious autumnal fruit. Then comes Vivaldi’s Gloria, adding more jubilation to the occasion with the Seattle Symphony Chorale. The program is completed with Bach’s filigree cantata for soprano and trumpet — a brilliant spotlight for Principal Trumpet David Gordon.

Helen Kim enjoys a multi-faceted career that has her regularly performing across the Americas, Europe and Asia. Since her concerto debut at the age of 8, she has given performances at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, BBC Proms, Suntory Hall and Disney Hall, among others.

Benaroya Hall is an award-winning design by local Seattle architects. It was designed in a traditional shape and constructed to highlight massive surfaces of wood and plaster. These surfaces were carefully styled to diffuse sound effectively and provide the whole auditorium with excellent acoustics. The wood paneling is acoustically customized to resonate with different sound frequencies. The whole hall is soundproofed by building it as a double-layered box, separated by and supported on rubber pads.

Everything about Benaroya Hall is special, from its architectural design to its extraordinary acoustics. The concert hall has stepped balconies on three levels, as well as an intentionally raked orchestra level that allows optimal sight lines for all the audience.
